Help for handling persons in a wheelchair
On January 14 2004, Médicar presented a piece of equipment to help handle wheelchairs to the members of L’Association des Transporteurs Médicaux du Québec in Drummondville.

Already in February 2000, Médicar, preoccupied with passenger and personnel safety, was concerned with the handling of wheelchair-bound persons in stairways and the inherent risks.

Considering this problem, the Association sectorielle transport entreposage (ASTE) requested the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail (IRSST) of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières develop a tool to facilitate the work of the technicians/drivers and thus ensure greater passenger safety. This research was carried out in collaboration with Médicar.

In March 2003, the IRSST had completed the evaluation of the operational prototype for handling wheelchairs and deposited its final report. The equipment to help handle wheelchairs is now available and the ASTE is promoting it to companies.
